Winners of FBS’s January Contest Announced

January 13th, 2006 · No Comments

Fantasybookspot.com’s first contest draw has just had its first winner. I want to thank Paul S. Kemp for supplying the books and his signature to them.

We will have more coming (the next one very soon) of all varieties, a couple I already have lined up, I just haven’t decided on the format, If any other author/publisher wants to participate with us in a similar fashion please contact me and I’m sure we can arrange something, I’m cordial…sometimes.

I have been kind of quiet because I’m working my ass off getting a few reviews done so, it’s just the calm before the storm. I do want to say that I saw the Nebula preliminary ballot, and while admitting I haven’t read every story nominated, my personal preference is Richard Bowes’ There is a Hole in the City. Why? Well, the story kicks ass and hits close to home, but also, while formulating my own interview questions for Mr. Bowes earlier this year, I read some of his past interviews and although I read a lot of great quotes from a number of the talented types in various interviews and articles, this one is one that I remember for some reason:

“If Norman Spinrad had any brains he’d resign. If he had any pride, he’d shoot himself.”

That’s just a statement that comes off as ‘real’ to me, and ‘authentic’ is the word that best describes Bowes’ work to me, both in ‘There is a Hole in the City’, and his From the Files of the Time Rangers.

I would comment on the best novel nominees, but don’t they just give that to Bujold now? I’m still trying to figure out how Paladin of Souls won last year (and I liked the book and Bujold).
