Calvin Johnson or Bust

I’m a true NFL fan, you know this because I’m a Lion’s fan. I’m also a draft junkie since about ‘89. So I offer this to Matt Millen:

If we don’t get a stupid deal (I’m talking Herschel, Eli, level) - a deal that involves 2 #1’s (one next year) we take our 4th WR in the last 5 years in the first round and we walk away with no need to justify it- we give Martz: Williams, Furrey and Johnson and then we work on the O-line and D with the rest of the picks: the draft is longer than 1 round.

I know those dipshits on ESPN are saying the same thing so you are inclined to do anything but - but you take CJ because you’re not trapped by the past (which doesn’t cast too kind of a reflection for you) you take the best player in the draft, we are not one player away regardless of position - so take the best

Do it for the fan who had to live through Scott Mitchell, Mouse Davis, the Run-and-Shoot, Joey Blue Eyes, dumb ass coin toss decisions, and you.

I totally agree with you Jay. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Although I wasn’t completely sold on the idea of going QB with our second round pick (some nice players left IMHO we could have used) I can’t say I’m upset at the moment. New England apparently does well again - showing people how to manuever in the draft and Cleavland makes a statement.

I don’t like Notre Dame, and didn’t like Quin in the top 5 but I have to admit he really handled himself well (at least in front of the cameras)during his slide.

Yeah, I’m jealous you guys got CJ - he’s the ultimate Madden created player - 6′5″, 240lbs, 4.3 speed, 40″ vert, excellent hands and work ethic. My beloved Redskins went Safety again with Landry - he looks like a monster player, but honestly, how much can a safety really be worth?? Man I wish we’d tried to pick up Branch at the end of the 1st round (talk about a drop!!). Quinn to the Browns was a pretty good ending, all-in-all.

The Redskins might have the most intimidating safety combo (on paper) I have seen. I was going to say since the Bronco’s Smith and Atwater but the two guys in Washington are much mote athletic and can cover much more ground.

    Nigga please!

I felt bad for Calvin Johnson. Granted, he’s going to be making more off a signing bonus than I’ll see in my lifetime, but he didn’t want to be a Lion. Did you see his face when he got selected. He had that “Man, fuck…” look of disappointment upon hearing that he was selected by Detroit.

Detroit reminds me of the Arizona Cardinals. A team stacked with good WRs, but couldn’t get a win if pussy depended on it. Fuck outta here with Detroit.

    Paran,

Skins fan here, too. Gregg Williams defense is dictated by the strength of the secondary, not the D-line. We weren’t strong in the trenches back in 2004 and 2005, either, but that didn’t stop the team from being a top 10 defense in those consecutive years. Besides, Branch is a scrub. Landry was the most highly rated defensive player in the 2007 draft and no one wanted to trade with the Skins for the 6th pick.

    We made the right move.

If only I could be a optimistic as a Card’s fan! They have been the team that ’should have been’ for the last couple years and remain so now, but I like there coach hire and I think (in a sporadic division) they are still - at the very least - a team to watch. We are the team that ‘just isn’t’. Leinart looks like a player. The difference between the cards and us (in terms of the WR) is that their picks produce and a high level (excluding dude from Penn State) and they got Boldin in a later round due to sub-standard 40 time (when he was injured). With the lion is just plain instability to any coaching changes, which means system changes, which means players who don’t fit every other year - it seems every year the question is whether or not Shaun Rogers will fit into a new system.

In a perfect world, I’d like to have seen us trade down and nab Willis (ILB), and either another high 2 or a 1 next year.

Landry is a nice player, I mean if the Bills can get away with picking Donte Whitner at 9 last year - this is a great pick and he’s a better prospect. Some people are sketch about picking that position this high up but in Williams system, this position and range at it covers for all his blitzing.
