Just a weekly round-up of some stuff at FBS:
First we have a piece by Bernd Kochanowski considering the Hammett Award nominees:
The Outlander, by Gil Adamson
The Yiddish Policemen’s Union, by Michael Chabon
End Games, by Michael Dibdin
Dahlia’s Gone, by Katie Estill
Stalin’s Ghost, by Martin Cruz Smith
Reviews:
- Val reviews Night Shade Book’s Wastelands: Stories of the Apocalypse. It has people like Gene Wolfe and George R.R. Martin involved so it pretty much has some points covered off top. Continuing to fill up our back issue bins, he also reviews Robert Jordan’s Path of Daggers
- Medora reviews Lavinia by the legendary Ursula Le Guin
- Ms. Starling drops a review for Romance fans with a review of Lipstick on her Collar by Sacchi Green and Rakelle Valencia.
- James Maxey’s Bitterwood, part of his Dragon Age cycle is reviewed by Jeremy, who also puts the smack down on Captain Kirk’s Guide to Women.
- Trinuveil goes back and reviews Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel’s Dart.
- Wicked Game by Jeri Smith Readdy is reviewed by Amber.
Exclusives:
I was able to grab a couple more exclusives this week. Two works by talented people named Hughes. First was a complete story from the a collection by Rhys Hughes. The story is Fable with Turkish Coffee from the collection Less Lonely Planet (read that here). The other is the first chapter from the forthcoming archonate novel from Matthew Hughes, Template. (read that here).
Book Club:
Join this month’s discussion on China Mieville’s Perdido Street Station at FBS!
More exclusives coming soon, plus - hopefully - my interview with Steven Erikson!
Enjoy!
