Back for a look back at the week that was at the BookSpot Central!
-Exclusives:
- This week we have a chapter from the forthcoming novel from Bram Stoker nominated author Cherie Priest, Fathom, to be published by Tor very soon!
- We also have have a non-exclusive, but one I wanted for the site as an alternative way of viewing it in Shadow’s Edge by Brent Weeks. This is the first chapter from the second book in his Night Angel Trilogy. Be sure to check out our previous interview with Brent as well!
I want to thank Orbit and Tor for choosing BookSpot Central as the place to showcase these samples
More to come as I lock it all down!
-Interviews:
- I posted my interview with veteran comic book writer Chuck Dixon where we talk G.I. Joe, war comics, and a little Archie Goodwin to!
I can’t even begin to tell you how many more interviews are on the way!
-Reviews:
- We have a couple of DVD reviews this week. Damon reviews the Blu Ray of Wall-E and I reviewed the 2-disc Director’s Cut of Tropic Thunder.
- Trina reviews Dust by Elizabeth Bear:
What I did find extremely compelling was the novel’s underlying ideas and concepts – of humanity, identity and evolution – and the very stylish manner in which Bear explores these ideas.
- Rob reviews Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel’s Mercy:
One thing I absolutely love about this series is the way Carey deals with sexuality (which is not the same as plenty of sex scenes, thank you very much). She manages to write about various sexual preferences without making them sound like perversions. Now that is truly rare even in modern fantasy. Think about how many homosexuals in fantasy you come across, depicted as corrupt older men who fancy little boys. Sure, it is romanticized to a point, without the divine protection of Elua half of Terre D’Ange would have an STD, but it is refreshing nonetheless.
Trina also gives us the scoop on more Juliet Marillier reviewing Child of the Prophecy.
I am pleased to say that she delivers a tale with an emotional depth and intricate characterization that effortlessly matches the previous books while at the same time providing a satisfying conclusion
- Amber reviews Simon Holt’s The Devouring.
As it is though, this is still a good story which will entertain young horror fans. There is quite a bit of graphic description - maimed people and animals, deformed and evil children, giant spiders, clowns
